A prayer for Shavuot - The Feast of Pentecost
Endless are Your revelations, O Eternal One, to every age and to all peoples.
For Your revelations to the House of Israel, those of our first days, and those of later ages, and for the discoveries we make for ourselves, we give thanks.
Deliver us from the darkness of ignorance, that we may see Your law with unclouded vision: help us to take these teachings into our lives.
Teach us Your Torah and enable us to hallow our lives with Your Mitzvot. O Source of truth and law, You are blessed for ever. Amen.
It has been said:
"Arise, shine, for your light has come: the glory of the Lord dawns upon you. Though darkness covers the earth, and deep darkness the peoples, the Lord shall rise over you as a sun, and His glory will be revealed to you.
Then the nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising."
O God, Your light shines continually upon the path of all who sincerely seek to know You and to do Your will. Help us always to search for You, always to listen for Your voice.
For the impulse within us to seek righteousness, and for the measure of truth that we have found, we praise Your holy name. May the observance of this Festival of Revelation inspire us to walk in Your ways, as it is written: "You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy."
You shall be to me a kingdom of priests, a holy people. For this commandment which I command you this day is not too difficult for you, nor too remote. No, the word is very near to you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it. The days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the House of Israel and the House of Judah. I will put My Torah within them, and engrave it on their hearts.
I will be their God; they shall be My people. And then it shall come to pass, that I will pour out My spirit upon all flesh. Let the glory of God be extolled, let His great name be hallowed in the world whose creation He willed. May His kingdom soon prevail, in our own day, our own lives, and the life of all Israel, and let us day: Amen.
Let His great name be blessed for ever and ever. Let the name of the Holy One, blessed is He, be glorified, exalted and honored, though He is beyond all the praises, songs, and adorations that we can utter, and let us say: Amen.
