The Culture of the Ancients
Ancient culture of biblical proportion!
During the ancient times of the recording of the scriptures, and even before, to understand how to live today, many times we need to look to the past and discover our beginnings.
Ancient Mesopotamia
One of my interests is definitely biblical history - and traveling back in time is a great escape to what is happening in our own economically challenged socitey today - so join me as we take a short trip back in time to the period of Abram, and his ancestrial home of "Ur".
Abram's ancestral home, "Ur" was located in southern Mesopotamia and was a very powerful city-state. In the book of the Covenant (Torah) it is mentioned four times. Today, "Ur" is located in the modern country of Iraq and depending on what is going on in the region it has exposed a welath of information about the pagan culture during Abram's time through various excavations. If you remember from the book of Beginnings (Genesis), Abram's father, Terah, moved his family north to a city called "Haran". Today we know that this ancient city is found in modern day Turkey. Close by this ancient city of Haran can be found villages that still have the names of Abram's great grandfather and grandfather, Serug and Nahor!
If you have not heard of the "Sumerian King List", which dates to approximately 2100 BC, you should goole this and check it out. This collection of clay tablets is one of the most profound finds of the century! It divides the Sumerian kings into two categories - those who reigned before Noah's flood to those who reigned afterwards. Many of the ancient cultures also record this 'great flood'; such as the "Epic of Gilgamesh" written by the ancient Babylonians.
Through these various tablets and ancient writings, we will discover the recipes and remedies that these ancient peoples used to heal the body, spirit and soul.
Stay tuned.
